April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and take action to prevent sexual violence. Join Resilience: Advocates for Ending Violence and our community partners for a month of events dedicated to education, healing, and advocacy!
Here are some opportunities to get involved this month:
April 2 – Wear Teal Day
Show your support for survivors by wearing teal, the color of sexual assault awareness.
April 4 – 1 in 5K: Walk, Run, and Roll
Location: Grand Valley State University (Starts at Mary Idema Pew Library, ends at Cook Carillon Tower)
Time: 6:00 PM
Join the Center for Health and Well-being and the GVSU Violence Prevention Task Force for the first annual 1 in 5K, supporting survivors and raising awareness during SAAM. Register here.
April 4 – Wear Blue for Child Abuse Prevention Month
Show your support for children impacted by abuse by wearing blue.
April 7 – Champions for Change: Transforming Masculinity to Build a Safer Campus
Location: Grand Valley State University (Kirkhof 2204)
Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
A workshop led by Brad Hieftje, Healthy Manhood Coordinator at Resilience, exploring healthy masculinity and its role in preventing gender-based violence.
April 9 – No Man’s Land Film Screening
Location: Grand Valley State University (Loosemore Auditorium – DeVos Center)
Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
No Man’s Land Film Festival highlights stories of women and gender-nonconforming athletes in outdoor sports, amplifying voices in traditionally male-dominated fields. Resilience’s Brad Hieftje will be tabling at the event. Register here.
April 10 & 17 – Trauma-Sensitive Yoga for Survivors
Location: 411 Butternut Drive, Holland, MI 49424
Time: 11:00 AM
A guided yoga session designed to help survivors reconnect with their bodies in a safe, supportive space. RSVP by emailing KrystalD@ResilienceMI.org.
April 12 – Lady Fest at the Lakeshore

Time: Noon – Late
A live music event featuring various artists in support of Resilience: Advocates for Ending Violence.
April 15 – Resilient Together: Rebuilding Support Systems After Abuse
Location: Virtual or In-Person (411 Butternut Dr, Holland, MI 49424)
Time: 5:30 PM
A discussion on healing from trauma and rebuilding support networks after abuse. RSVP by emailing SuzanneK@ResilienceMI.org.
April 17 – Northwest Ottawa Community Connections
Location: Central Park Place, 421 Columbus Ave., Grand Haven
Time: 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM
A networking and resource fair connecting community members with local support organizations.
April 17 – Navigating Legal Pathways
Location: 411 Butternut Drive, Holland, MI 49424
Time: 5:30 PM
A workshop led by legal experts on the legal rights and options available to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. RSVP by emailing LauraS@ResilienceMI.org.
April 30 – Denim Day
