Planting Something That Lasts
When giving is steady, healing has time to take root.

Katie’s story reflects resilience, healing, and the power of consistent support. After experiencing abuse and deep isolation, Katie came to Resilience seeking safety, clarity, and a place to begin rebuilding.

“Living in domestic violence is incredibly isolating. Everything in my life revolved around navigating someone else’s behavior.”

For Katie, survival meant taking things one day at a time. Her world had become small, unstable, and shaped by constant uncertainty and fear. When she first connected with an advocate, change did not happen all at once. Instead, support came steadily.

“My advocate helped me take everything that felt overwhelming and break it into steps I could actually manage.”

That consistency created space for something new to take root. Through advocacy, safety planning, and ongoing support, Katie was able to move at a pace that was safe and realistic for her situation.

“I needed one person I could tell the worst parts to. Someone who could help me understand what I was experiencing and remind me that it wasn’t my fault.”

For Katie, leaving was not an immediate option. It required time, planning, and the assurance that support would still be there when she was ready. Over time, what began as small, steady support became the foundation for lasting change.

Today, Katie serves on the Resilience team as a Survivor Advocate, offering other survivors the same steady presence she once needed. She describes healing not as a single moment, but as knowing support will still be there whenever it is needed.

“Success is when someone feels strong enough to move forward, but knows they can still come back if they need to.”

Katie’s story is a reminder that support does not always mean a survivor immediately uproots their life.

Sometimes, it means planting a seed of hope. It means tending to that seed with patience and care. It means offering support through uncertainty, through setbacks, through moments of growth, and through every step forward. And it means being there when a survivor is ready to bloom.

Katie describes Resilience as “being built on threads of support, each one woven together to create something strong enough to hold survivors through every step of their journey.”

Those threads are created by advocates, volunteers, community partners, and donors who make ongoing support possible.

Recurring support helps keep those threads in place. It allows Resilience to be present from the moment a survivor first reaches out, through every stage of their journey, and alongside them as they heal, rebuild, and grow.

Because healing takes time. And when support is steady, healing has time to take root.
